About Michelangelo
Born in New Orleans, Michelangelo Canale’s education includes The Juilliard School in New York City and the Vaganova Ballet Academy in St. Petersburg. He is a graduate of Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet School, Professional Division under David Moroni and later continued on full tuition scholarship at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Teaching Division. His professional dance credits include the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, André Eglevsky Ballet, New Orleans Delta Festival Ballet, Eugene Ballet, Ballet Idaho, Kalinin Dance Theatre, Fedicheva Ballet, Juilliard Opera Center and Manitoba Opera Association. He has taught and been ballet master for various schools, companies, and universities throughout the United States, Hong Kong, China, and Canada. A two-time recipient of the Paddy Stone Choreographic Award, his choreographic credits include the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, the Winnipeg School for the Performing Arts, Characters Dance Collective, Manitoba Dance Festival, André Eglevsky Ballet, Las Vegas Dance Theatre, Anchorage Opera, Anchorage Symphony Orchestra and Alaska Theatre of Youth. In 2009, he was the artistic director of the Okanagan Summer Dance Intensive, formally the Banff Centre Training Pprogram. His students have placed in finals at the YAGP Competition in New York City from 2002 - 2018. He has studied under Oleg Vinogradov (Artistic Director of Kirov/Mariinsky Theatre of Saint Petersburg, Russia) and danced in his 2013 production of Romeo and Juliet. He was the Founder and Artistic Director of Anchorage Ballet and the Anchorage Classical Ballet Academy since 1997. Mr. Canale was the founding artistic director and executive director of the Alaska Ballet from 2019-2025.
Ballet Coaching by Michelangelo was established by Michelangelo Canale to preserve the art of classical dance while providing professional education, coaching, and performance opportunities to aspiring professionals, adult and recreational dancers worldwide. We believe that dance is for everyone and that everyone can enjoy or play a part in preserving this beautiful art form. We are focused on providing education at the international standard.
